STSM: Exploring Grapevine Responses to Climate Change

Dvir Tuval, from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, participated in a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) at the University of Bologna. His STSM took place from August 26th to September 5th, 2024, under the supervision of Prof. Gianluca Allegro. This mission was part of the FruitCREWS COST Action.

During his stay, Dvir worked on experiments focusing on grapevine responses to climate-induced stresses. He explored various vineyard management techniques, including soil management and irrigation strategies. Additionally, he conducted ecophysiological measurements such as stomatal conductance and CO₂ assimilation.

Dvir also visited multiple research sites, gaining hands-on experience with different viticulture approaches. He collected and analyzed berry samples to evaluate the effects of various treatments on fruit quality. These experiences provided him with valuable insights into the complexities of vineyard management.

Reflecting on his STSM, Dvir expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with a leading research team. He stated: “This experience has broadened my perspective and will greatly contribute to my future research efforts.” His stay opened opportunities for future collaboration in viticulture research.
