From 30 June to 18 July 2025, Prof. Burhanettin İmrak from Çukurova University (Adana, Türkiye) conducted a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) at Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna. The mission was hosted by Prof. Brunella Morandi, Chair of the FruitCREWS Action, and her team.
The focus of Prof. İmrak’s STSM was on regulated deficit irrigation strategies applied to cherry, apple, and kiwifruit trees. During his stay, he gained hands-on experience with advanced tools and methods such as sap flow meters, dendrometers, ceptometers, and instruments for measuring stem and leaf water potential, photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, and canopy temperature.
Field visits to the Cadriano experimental area and practical sessions on pruning, irrigation systems, and orchard technologies further enriched the mission. Prof. İmrak also shared his expertise on water stress and deficit irrigation, facilitating a mutual exchange of knowledge. Through this STSM, scientific collaboration within FruitCREWS was strengthened, fostering new opportunities for joint projects on water management in fruit crops.
The mission was financially supported by COST under the FruitCREWS Action.
